ALBUQUERQUE — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico has opened a Blue Door Neighborhood Center℠ in Albuquerque’s South Valley. The Center is a hub for health and wellness solutions offering resources, programming and services on a range of topics to everyone in the community at no cost.
“For more than 84 years, we have focused on improving health outcomes in our state,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president. “By being in a local neighborhood, we can help improve the health of our community and expand access to resources while addressing social determinants of health.”
There will be services, resources and classes targeting chronic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and behavioral health, as well as maternal and infant health. Visitors can enjoy fitness and nutrition classes, learn to better use health insurance and be connected to community resources that provide access to food or transportation.
The multilingual BDNC staff includes a manager, health educator, community outreach specialist, community affairs concierge and customer service personnel. Blue Door Neighborhood Center is at 3925 Las Estancias Way SW in the Las Estancias shopping center at Coors and Rio Bravo and will serve visitors 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Friday.
“At Blue Door Neighborhood Center, we will collaborate with community organizations and health care providers to offer no-cost health and wellness resources, services, classes and workshops,” said Anita Hamel, BDNC manager. “We welcome the entire community to join us to learn, connect and focus on health and wellbeing.”
